Amy Amanda 'Triple A' Allen - contributing reporter

Well, folks, it’s official—Hardball Stitches is no longer just a local affair. We’ve gone worldwide, and the first major payday has just landed. Centerfielder Juan "Turkish" Lira, the electrifying talent out of Cuba, has signed on the dotted line with the Syracuse Firebirds for a cool $4.8 million. And for those of you doing currency conversions at home, that’s a staggering 172,061,265 lira in Turkey. Talk about making it rain!

Syracuse ownership wasted no time addressing the move, offering up a quote that can only be described as... well, honest: "Probably just overpaid… but whatever." Not exactly the warmest welcome, but hey, a deal’s a deal. The signing does take a bite out of Syracuse’s future spending power, dropping them down to around $18 million left in the prospect fund, but let’s give credit where it’s due—they’re the first ones to strike it big, and that’s a win in my book.

But hold onto your peanuts and Cracker Jacks, because this record might not last long. Word around the league is that two highly coveted shortstops are still out there, and if the whispers are true, Montgomery has been making more than a few visits to one of them. Could another major signing be on the horizon? Stay tuned, because things are heating up in a big way.

S1 Smoke & Stitches

Catherine Trammell - contributing reporter

There's a chill in the air, the kind that settles over the diamond before a storm. Deals whispered behind closed doors, power plays in the dark - this is the undercurrent of Hardball Stitches. The season may be in full swing, but front offices are already plotting their next move, their fingers tapping on mahogany desks like a hitter's nervous twitch in the batter's box.

Rumors swirl like a well-placed curveball. The truth, much like a hanging slider, is bound to break sooner or later. So pour a drink, light a cigar if you're the type, and settle in. The game behind the game is about to get interesting.

  • Let's start in St Louis, where the Archers may already be looking for a willing partner to take Koji Katou off their hands. A max contact, a brutal opening series, and the kind of whispers that keep a man awake at night. If Katou was hoping for a honeymoon period, he may soon find himself in divorce court instead.
    • EDIT - Seems the honeymoon is ON following a 3-3 Game 4 with another Home Run.
  • Meanwhile, Scottsdale is staring down a first in franchise history - 0-3 to start the season. Panic doesn't just set in, it spreads like a slow, suffocating virus. Could C Tyler Stull, 2B Mark Harper, and 3B Taijuan Fick, SP Dillon Rupp, SP Adam Loup, and RP Willie Blanco all be on the block? Depends how desperate the front office gets, and desperation tends to make men do foolish things.
  • Speaking of foolish things, Syracuse and Texas are reportedly close on a deal that would send the Syracuse Firebirds a brand-new used washing machine and the Texas Toast a reliever. Fans aren't amused. If the trade falls through, the crowd is demanding fresh blood in the form of top prospects Ryan Cooke and Juan Ugueto. The message to ownership is clear: make a move, or you're.......toast.
  • Over in Arizona, the Canyon Kings are wondering if their ace, Artie Hollins, might be better suited as a court jester after his Game 1 shelling. Against Vancouver, of all teams. Canada. That's the kind of embarrassment that lingers.
  • The International market has been a frenzy thus far with 14 signings thus far and at least three more coming in the next day or so. Though we've yet to have that $1M+ signing bonus. Colorado Springs leads the back with 5 signings. Considering the US has an Air Force base there, many conspiracy theorists are going wild with speculation on these players.
  • Speaking of the International market, Montgomery scout Tosh Blatherskite has returned from the Dominican Republic in a daze, enraptured by a shortstop he swears is the future of the game. It's love at first sight, but baseball has a way of turning romance into tragedy.
  • After starting the season 0-6 and not having his contract renewed, power hitter Jim Charleston is fearing for his spot on the Mexico City Luchadors. Jim was seen striking out in batting practice 7 times straight. Rumor has it the owner may put Charleston in a ladder match against El Senor Perro for his contract to help drum up game attendance.
  • Rumor has it, Los Angeles just learned the position number doesn't have to be their team's hitting order. Additionally, there are whispers coming out of the depths of the Stadium that Omar Mateo, Birdie Hill, and Rabbit Clarke are in competition for two roster spots as the popular date to call up minor league stars approaches. No word yet on who the Labradors have their eyes on internally.
  • Chicago Northsiders newest rookie pitcher Max Vega had to pay for a round of drinks for the team after their recent win but being 20 yrs old he couldn't have a drink himself; instead choosing a Kool-Aid on the rocks. The taste of childhood innocence, of a career still untouched by the weight of the game. For now.
  • 75% of the Fielding Coaches will apparently be fired at season's end. We aren't quite sure whose going to replace them, maybe some of the amazing fielding Shortstops will retire and go into coaching.
  • Party stores around Charlotte are apparently out of stock of streamers, balloons, and confetti as it seems the City is already gearing up the planning stages for their Division championship and the parade path downtown. No word yet from their division rivals.
  • No updates coming from the Mormons in Salt Lake City - their lips are sealed!
  • Change is a seductive thing. It tempts you, whispers in your ear, makes you believe there’s something better just beyond your reach. The Indianapolis Speedsters are listening. Word around the league is they’re ready to shake things up—hard. A youth movement is brewing, with fresh talent clawing at the door: Jeff Gray, cool under pressure. Sticky Cole, quick and unpredictable. Brian Field, steady as a heartbeat. Lyle Merrick, a bat with a taste for blood. They’re young, hungry, and dangerous.

But there’s a problem. There always is. The Speedsters need to make space, and that means someone has to go. The suits upstairs are already making calls, feeling out the market, deciding which veterans they can live without. Is this a rebuild? A power play? Or just another gamble in a game where the wrong move can cost you everything?

“They’re ready,” a scout murmured, eyes scanning the field like a man watching the inevitable. “Gray and Cole—those two? They could light up the league right now. If Indianapolis wants the future, all they have to do is reach out and take it.”

Of course, no one’s admitting to anything. General Manager Wally Rez, ever the poker player, played it coy at a recent press conference. “We’re always evaluating, always looking to improve,” he said, the ghost of a smirk on his lips. “We’ve got talent in the system. And we’re not afraid to make the tough calls.”

And what about the fans? Some are breathless with anticipation, desperate for something new. Others know the danger of letting go too soon, of thinking you can trade experience for raw talent without paying a price. One thing’s for sure—something’s coming. A move. A shift. Maybe even a fall.

The Speedsters are on the edge of something. The only question now is: do they take the leap, or do they look down and lose their nerve?

Highlanders walk-off Northsiders

Harry Doyle:
"Well, folks, if you’re still awake, congratulations! You’ve officially outlasted half the crowd and both teams’ bullpens. We’re in the bottom of the 13th, still tied at two, and it looks like the Highlanders are running out of patience—and so am I! Let’s see if someone can finally send us home."

[D.Sadler steps in]

Harry Doyle:
"Leading it off is Sadler—he’s oh-for-five tonight, but hey, at this point, who’s even counting? Here’s the pitch… and he lifts a lazy fly ball to left… Balester camps under it… one down."

[Crowd groans]

Harry Doyle:
"Well, that won’t get it done. Next up, cleanup hitter Don Benincasa—who, let’s be honest, is probably just hoping to make contact."

[D.Benincasa digs in]

Harry Doyle:
"Flores looks in… winds… and the pitch—SWUNG ON AND MISSED! Strike three! Yikes! Benincasa chased that one like it owed him money! And just like that, two quick outs for the Highlanders."

[More groans from the crowd]

Harry Doyle:
"And wouldn’t you know it, folks? Look who’s coming up—Rafael Bonilla. The man, the myth, the—well, let’s just say, earlier tonight, he was looking more like a legend in the wrong way. But now? He’s got a chance to make everyone forget that ninth-inning whiff and prove why he’s the odds-on favorite for MVP and the new face of Hardball Stitches!"

[Crowd buzzing as Bonilla steps in]

Harry Doyle:
"Orlando Flores toes the rubber… he sets… first pitch to Bonilla—CRACK! HIGH DRIVE TO LEFT! THAT BALL IS GONNA BE… OUTTA HERE! GOODNIGHT EVERYBODY! RAFAEL BONILLA WALKS IT OFF!"

[Crowd erupts, Bonilla rounds the bases, teammates storm the field]

Harry Doyle:
"Bonilla takes the slow jog around the bases, fists pumping! He’s getting mobbed at home plate—helmets flying, Gatorade showers—hell, I think someone just threw a shoe! The Highlanders win it in thirteen!"

[Doyle sighs, chuckles]

Harry Doyle:
"Well, folks, there’s your MVP moment. Bonilla goes from goat to god in four innings, and the Highlanders escape with a 3-2 win! For Monty in the booth, the exhausted stadium staff, and the folks who just woke up from their seventh-inning nap, I’m Harry Doyle saying… about damn time! See you next time—whenever that is!"

S1 Final Spring Training Standings

 Richard Castle - contributing reporter

Spring Training for the Hardball Stitches league has drawn to a close, leaving behind a trail of thrilling comebacks, controversial calls, and enough late-inning drama to rival a Shakespearean tragedy - or one of my bestsellers. Durham emerged as the undeniable favorites, topping the standings with a combination of raw talent and uncanny teamwork that has opposing pitchers losing sleep. Meanwhile, the Mexico City clawned their way to a close second, proving they're more than just a scrappy underdog story. At the other end of the spectrum, the Boston 'Act As if' Afflects found themselves in the basement, their office as cold as an Alaskan spring. With the regular season on the horizon, one question lingers in the air like a pop fly on a windy day: who will write the next chapter in the Hardball Stitches saga?

The run differential was used as the tie breaker and is listed in ( ). Our second tie break is runs scored.

S1 Fat Wallets: The Top 5 Earners in Every Position

Eli Cash - contributing reporter

In the hallowed dugouts and under the bright stadium lights of Hardball Stitches, where mythic plays and crushed dreams converge, there's one question that echoes as much as the crack of a bat: Who's raking it in? Baseball has always been a game of stats, strategy, and style, but in this league of diamond kings, the salaries are as eye-popping as the homerun arcs.

I'm Eli Cash, your loyal chronicle of chaos and lore, here to pull back the curtain on the financial heavyweights of Hardball Stitches. From catches calling shots to outfielder with rocket arms, we're taking a tour through the league's most lucrative contracts by position.

Think of it as a grand expose, equal parts awe and absurdity. Some names you'll expect - icons as unshakeable as the seventh-inning stretch. Others might surprise you, new talent bursting onto the scene with a bat in one hand and checkbook in the other. What drives these numbers? Is it skill, charm, or something more arcane like a fictional budget?

Grab your popcorn, baseball fans, because it's time to see who's cashing in and how they're leaving their mark on Hardball Stitches. Let's get started.

Welcome to San Antonio, Hong-Chih Lee

A Day in San Antonio with Harry Doyle and Hong-Chih Lee

"Ladies and gentlemen, let’s welcome the newest star in Hardball Stitches, the man with the golden arm, the pride of Japan, and the first international signing in league history—Hong-Chih Lee! And who better to show him around than me, Harry Doyle? Fasten your seatbelt, Hong-Chih—it’s gonna be a bumpy ride. Especially on these San Antonio roads."

With his signature swagger, Harry revs up his convertible—a ride that looks like it’s seen more ballpark parking lots than car washes—and sets off to give Hong-Chih Lee, fresh off the plane, a tour of his new hometown.

Stop #1: Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium
"First things first, let me introduce you to your new office—Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium! Or as the locals call it, The Wolff. A real gem in the Hardball Stitches league. Sure, it’s no Tokyo Dome, but it’s got charm. Plenty of parking, a loyal fan base, and the best churros this side of the Rio Grande. Don’t worry about the left-field wall—it’s not as close as it looks. Just kidding, it is. Hope you can keep those power hitters in check.”

Harry gestures dramatically to the stadium, where a small group of groundskeepers wave back. “And don’t forget, kid—this place is home to the Yo-Yo Bros Yo, the team with the most baffling name and the loudest mascot. You’ll love it here. Or at least tolerate it.”

Stop #2: The Alamo
"Now, here’s the Alamo. You might’ve read about it in history class, but let me give you the Harry Doyle version: brave Texans, bad odds, and a whole lot of yelling. Sound familiar? Yeah, it’s kinda like pitching in this league. Just remember: nobody actually plays baseball here, so if anyone challenges you to a duel, just say you’re busy working on your slider.”

Hong-Chih listens intently, nodding as Harry points out the iconic building. “Pro tip: Don’t mention Santa Anna. Locals are still salty about that guy.”

Stop #3: River Walk
"Ah, the famous River Walk! This is where San Antonio comes alive. Restaurants, bars, and just enough water to keep it scenic without being Venice. You can grab a bite here after a game, though I’d recommend skipping the chimichangas unless you wanna feel like you’re pitching with a rock in your stomach. It’s also a great spot for autographs—if you’re into that sorta thing. But don’t let it go to your head, kid. The real stars here are the fajitas.”

Harry winks at a passing mariachi band and tosses a dollar in their tip jar. “And hey, if the Yo-Yos go on a losing streak, this is a good place to lay low. Just keep moving, and no one will notice you.”

Stop #4: Pearl District
"This is the Pearl District, where San Antonio gets fancy. You’ll find good coffee, great food, and the kind of people who ask way too many questions about your ERA. Don’t worry—they’ll love you. First international signing in Hardball Stitches? That’s big news. Plus, you’ve got the Yo-Yo name stitched on your chest. Can’t get more Texas than that.”

Hong-Chih looks around, taking in the upscale vibe. Harry leans over conspiratorially. “One more thing—if anyone invites you to a line-dancing class, just say no. Trust me.”

Stop #5: Lazy Lizard Saloon
"Last stop, every ballplayer’s favorite: a local bar. This here’s the Lazy Lizard Saloon, where you can celebrate a win, drown out a loss, or just enjoy some peace and quiet. Well, maybe not the quiet part. They’ve got karaoke on Fridays. You sing, Hong-Chih?”

Hong-Chih shakes his head, smiling shyly. Harry grins. “Good. Save your voice for the mound. Besides, no one wants to hear my rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’ again.”

As the sun sets over San Antonio, Harry raises a glass of something amber-colored (Hong-Chih sticks with water) and gives the rookie a knowing smile.

"Hong-Chih Lee, you’re making history as the first international player in Hardball Stitches. This city’s got your back, the Yo-Yos have your front, and I’ve got enough bad jokes to last you the season. Welcome to San Antonio, kid. Let’s go win some ballgames—and maybe avoid a few cactus gardens along the way.”

Hong-Chih raises his glass, a genuine smile spreading across his face. With Harry Doyle as his guide, one thing’s for sure: life with the Yo-Yo Bros Yo is going to be anything but boring.

"Bottoms up, and go Yo-Yos!"

Hong-Chih adjusts his cap, his eyes wide with a mix of excitement and apprehension. “Ah, Mr. Doyle-san,” he says, bowing slightly, “San Antonio… how do you say… very big spirit! Like samurai city in cowboy hat!”

Harry chuckles, shaking his head. “Samurai city, huh? Well, partner, we’ve got our own kind of warriors here. They wield bats instead of swords, but hey, same principle.”

Hong-Chih nods earnestly, his hands mimicking a dramatic katana swing. “I will train like great master from samurai movie. Every pitch—precision, honor, victory!” He punctuates the statement by miming a slow, deliberate pitch, then finishes with another bow.

“Alright, Miyamoto Musashi, let’s save the honor speeches for the mound,” Harry laughs, revving the engine. “But if you’re looking for a place to channel that energy, the Lazy Lizard’s karaoke night might be your dojo.”

“Ah, karaoke! Like in American movie!” Hong-Chih’s face lights up. “But no singing. Only… how do you say… mysterious presence? Like ninja.”

Harry nearly doubles over, laughing. “Kid, if you go ninja on karaoke night, you’re gonna be the talk of the team. Let’s start with churros and sliders before you take over the town.”

Hong-Chih nods solemnly. “Yes. First churros, then honor.”

As the convertible weaves through San Antonio’s streets, Harry realizes he might have just met his match in personality—and maybe his new favorite rookie.

There we are folks in the mantra of This is Year 1 Baby! we have 2 unsigned Type As and 1 unsigned Type B.

Next year's prime FA target you ask? 31 year old first baseman Rajai Johnstone, unless Durham can secure him long-term. The top pitcher is a little more debatable amongst the blog writers, but we hear starting pitcher Luis Cruz of Vancouver and reliever Victor Mota of Fargo mentioned often.

    S1 - Budget Updates

     Eli Cash - contributing reporter

Alright, listen up. With the regular Free Agency period winding down to a gloriously anticlimactic halt, it's time to turn our gaze toward the International market, a realm so untamed it could be a surrealist painting if you squint. Sure, a few more free agents might sign, but that's the calm before the storm. Owners are waiting for the dust to settle on the high-priced AA/AAAA talent that's been pararded out like a lineup for circus freaks, hoping to make a splash at the Major League level. But as of today? This where where we stand.

Here's the thing: many owners are preparing for a sky-high IFA market, which, if you were paying attention to our One Thing article - because you're all savants - you would've seen coming. The pieces were right there, right between the lines, waiting to be noticed. So, let's dive into the teams that have the cojones to make a play in this market - those with at least $15M in prospect money. Teams like Philadelphia and Buffalo each have four picks combined between Round 1 and the Competitive Balance Round. They're sitting pretty, but they'll have to make a tough decision; do they go all in on the draft quality, or do they throw their hat into the wild, unpredictable ring of the International stage? It's a gamble, because even that $600k for a late comp round pick could turn into a dealbreaker when the bidding war heats up for a Japanese phenom.

Now, I should point out that all this is based on estimates. Why? Well, the accountants are on strike, of course. You didn't think we'd have a nice, neat spreadsheet for this, did you? No, this is a world of chaos, and we're all just dancing in the moonlight.

In parentheses is the number of picks that fall within the First and Comp Rounds.

    • $45M - Indianapolis (3)
    • $41M - Cincinnati (2)
    • $38M - Fresno (2)
    • $36M - Fargo (2)
    • $34M - Montgomery (4)
      • Picked up an extra 2nd round picks too
    • $33M - Arizona (1)
    • $31M - Buffalo (4)
    • $30M - Baltimore (3)
    • $28M - Nashville (3)
    • $25M - Scottsdale (2) & Tucson (1)
    • $24M - Durham (1) & Trenton (2)
    • $23M - Chicago (1), San Antonio (2), Texas (1), Colorado Springs (4), & Syracuse (1)
    • $22M - Los Angeles (2) & Vancouver (1)
    • $20M - New York (1), Helena (2), Scranton (2), & Philadelphia (3)
      • Philly also picked up 2 extra 2nd round picks
If they sign all those picks, Montgomery, Buffalo, and Philadelphia could move down considerably on that list.

    Season 2 and beyond!

     Minihouston - Editor-In-Chief

Alright sports fans, as many if you know we have the opportunity to add a very unique feature to Hardball Stitches - a draft lottery similar to that of the MLB rather than the reverse order of the end season records; where the worst record gets first pick.

I’m thrilled to add this feature to our world for many reasons, and wanted to start by giving a shoutout to Bob for offering this to us. Thank you!
    • This ties us a little bit closer to the current MLB set up. Given some of the current coding in HBD, we’ve made a slight change - the MLB gives odds to the bottom 18 teams; we’ll use the 16 who have protected draft picks in the first round instead. That prevents anyone with a 17th pick shifting into the top 16 or a #1 pick being given away due to a Type A FA signing. Only the top 6 picks are picked from the lottery, after that it goes in reserves order of the standings like usual. This means the team with the worst record selects no worse than the 7th pick, second worst picks no worse than the 8th, etc. The bottom three all have the same odds and odds decrease from there with the 16th worst record have a very minimal chance at being selected…but still a chance.
    • It also makes us unique from every other world in HBD and in my opinion gives us an advantage if/when recruiting is needed to backfill teams. Discord and our blog do a fine job recruiting for us as well. Now I imagine there might be a small handful of people that want it the other way because they know where they will pick - but the added level of excitement I think far outweighs the select few who won't like it. Plus it's change, something people have been wishing...hoping...dreaming of to happen in HBD.
    • And on a minor note, it also gives the world another way to combat hard tanking for the #1 pick. Sure teams will tank / rebuild; but it no longer guarantees them the first overall selection. In the 10 mock lotteries we did on discord, the bottom three teams won the #1 pick 6 of the 10 times and only 3 times did one of the bottom three teams end up with the #7 pick. The #15 & 16 teams actually never moved from their position in those 10 mocks and only twice did the #14 team move up - once all the way up to the #1 pick! Now take these numbers lightly as it's a small sample size.

    S1 Open Check Book

      Jessica Fletcher - contributing reporter

So we've covered all the different Type A & B Free Agents, some of whom are starting to sign; but let's take a look at who has what S1 money on the offer sheets. The blog's accountants weren't available to confirm these numbers. Rounding errors will occur.

    • $34M - Indianapolis
      • But doesn't have a max offer out
    • $29M - Trenton - the likely suitor for Kijo Katou
    • $27M - St. Louis
    • $20M - Salt Lake City, Cleveland
    • $17M - Fresno
    • $15M - Buffalo, New Olreans
    • $14M - Los Angeles, Vancouver
    • $13M - Boston
    • $12M - Fargo
    • $11M - Scottsdale
    • $10M - Philadelphia, New York
    • $8M - Helena
    • $7M - Durham
    • $6M - Mexico City
    • $5M - Charlotte
    • $4M - Texas
    • $3M - Chicago
    • $0 - Arizona, San Antonio, Colorado Springs, Montgomery, Baltimore, Scranton, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Nashville, Tacoma, Tucson

Could Trenton be the only team still in play for the top Free Agent on the market?

    S1 Breaking News

Breaking News: Japanese Star Koji Katou Spotted in Salt Lake City, Linked to Trappers
    Salt Lake City, UT—January 17, 2025

Koji Katou, a 30-year-old right fielder from Japan, was spotted in Salt Lake City today, igniting rumors of a potential deal with the Salt Lake City Trappers. Known for his cannon arm in the outfield and his ability to crush pitches deep into the stands, Katou has been a standout in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for over a decade. His appearance in Utah has left baseball fans wondering if a move to the United States is imminent.

Eyewitnesses report seeing Katou in discussions with Trappers representatives at a popular downtown venue, though neither side has confirmed the nature of the meeting. If the Trappers secure Katou, it would be a significant boost for their lineup and a potential game-changer for the team’s ambitions this season.

While official details remain scarce, the buzz around Katou’s presence in Salt Lake City is undeniable. Adding a player of his talent and international reputation could electrify the local baseball scene. Fans eagerly await further news as speculation continues to swirl.

    S1 Budget Updates

    Eli Cash - contributing reporter

Alright Hardball Stitches fans, as we near the Arbitration deadline. Every case has already been resolved but we still have plenty of movement on the trade market. Let's pause and take a quick look at some different budget numbers. We'll look at Free Agent budget remaining, possible IFA spending, and Future Commitments; which will typically be covered in our On The Books series.

First we'll tackle the upcoming Free Agent market. Now being our first season it's not always easy to tell, but we have indicators of who will be looking at the International market as well. At the top of the list is Salt Lake City being able to afford nearly two max deals; and given their minimum prospect budget - I fully expect them to go hard in Free Agency. There are 9 other teams who can still afford a max deal and it's widely assumed that Koji Katou will get just that as the top name on the market. The home town favorite Indianapolis might just have the edge on everyone there. But which pitcher gets the money - will it be Louie Vizquel or Javier Nieves; both of whom will give Montgomery a Type A pick. With the control issues of many other "top" arms, keep an eye on Anthony Crow as a contender to get paid. Texas currently has the least amount of wiggle room with just $4.3M left to spend. Tacoma is not far behind them; but having been late to the waiving party - they expect to clear some budgets off their books as well.

And now for the ever expensive International Market, where no team (besides maybe Fresno and Scranton - for legal reasons we are not allowed to comment on this any further) has more than $15M in scouting the international market. We've taken into account budgets that can be transferred and while we do not have access to everyone's books; we feel we are within a rounding error of the numbers. Indianapolis is #1 - though if you take off their $30M spend on Katou, they have left with a max of just shy of $30M; falling them down outside the top 12. A few things to take into considering are the quantity of Rule 4 draft picks that some times will likely spend on - like Montgomery mentioned above. With extra Type A and comp rounds picks; they will clearly have less to spend internationally. St. Louis falls within the top 12 but having only budgeted $6M for prospects its very likely they only spend on the Rule 4 draft.

And finally for our On The Books update, Colorado Springs comes in as the big spender with no fear of committing to the future - having $127M already cooked in its books. Up there are Syracuse, Buffalo, and Scranton - all above $100M. Down on the, likely never getting married because they can't even mto having a dog; is Vancouver, Nashville, Arizona, and Durham. The former three all have high scouting as well.

    S1 Upcoming ML Rookies

Amy Amanda 'Triple A' Allen - contributing reporter

Hello Hardball Stitches fans, Jessica appears to have the Major League covered in her recent Top Players series, but let's take a look at some of the names still in the minors that could make a difference this season. For now we'll cover those ready for promotions, but there are plenty who will make an impact by being traded for ML talent. All positions listed are based upon currently positions within their franchise - the blog is not responsible for you not looking at their glove to know where they actually belong. In future years we'll provide thoughts on players, but this year there are far too many ready for the big leagues that we'll just break them down into a single list.
And that's just the position players, let's take a look at the pitchers. We had to stop the list somewhere, there are plenty that appear to be ready or close to ready for the majors.

    S1 On the Books

    Eli Cash - contributing reporter

Your money man here, this will be our first dive into budgets of the Hardball Stitches franchise; this series in particular will be a look at future committed money. We'll be sure to point who throws money around like they're visiting the strip club and those owners who are tight wads, afraid of commitment, and likely still single. But until the seasons starts we don't have access to everyone's books for the future money, we can go ahead and take a look at the current spending's for this inaugural season.

As it stands, Scranton and Tacoma appear to be competing for highest salary, which hopefully means they have the top talent as well. On the far end of the spectrum from those two teams are Montgomery and Syracuse, with barely over $30M spent on this season. Will be interesting to see the update once budgets are set to see who exactly as how much for Payroll.

    S1 Schedule

    Minihouston - Editor-In-Chief

Alright guys, I'm sure many of you are wondering; especially now that we have 0 owners still trying to select their teams. We've completed our blog series on Top Players entering Season 1, but I wanted to address the schedule real quick. Initially I had planned on starting 2/1, but Bob and Jordan were able to get the world created much sooner. One thing I wanted to make sure to do when we start a season is look at how the important dates shake out so nothing falls on a holiday or another day people might generally be preoccupied with other life events. The start of the season is one of those for me and another reason I liked the initial 2/1 date - I have a HUGE exam I'm studying for. Selfish, I know.

But instead of waiting nearly a month and kill any momentum we've built up, I'll hit the button tomorrow, Sunday 1/12. Here's how that would play out:

    • 1/13 Budgets
    • 1/14 Resign FAs / Coaches
    • 1/15 Arb Hearings
    • 1/16 Sign FAs / Coaches
    • 1/20 Rule 5 Draft
    • 1/28 First regular season game
    • 2/12 Amateur draft prospects released
    • 2/19 Amateur draft
    • 3/8 Trade deadline
    • 3/28 Playoffs (for those lucky few)
    • 4/9 - 4/10 end of World Series

S1 - Best Players - First Base Edition

                    Jessica Fletcher - contributing reporter

Jessica Fletcher here, with another edition of Best Player; this time with the first basemen. These were the tall kids growing up who weren't the most athletics. This is also the guy, you get all the gossip from as they love to chat it up. If there's one thing to say about these initial First basemen in Hardball Stitches, it's their fantastic power and eyes - paired with a lack of contact and ability to hit both lefties and righties - a few make the exception.
